CREATIVE PRACTICE

My artistic approach is abstract and semi-abstract in nature. My paintings invite exploration and interpretation, seeking to capture the spirit of the subject, rather than attempting to reproduce its image. My artwork always takes on a life of its own. I sometimes know from whence I began, but I am never certain of the direction in which my work will go. It is truly a creative process, at times intimidating, always challenging and in the end exhilarating, but never dull. I currently work mainly with acrylics and mixed media on canvas.  I find mixed media particularly appropriate to explore the multidimensionality of my subject matter. I paint with brushes, pallet knives, sponges, rags –and more. I use different types of gel, ink, sand and other materials on the canvas. My works range in size from 4ʺ x 6ʺ to 42ʺ x 51ʺ.

ARTISTIC JOURNEY

I began painting in 2007, working with watercolours on Arches, yupo, washi and rice papers. From there, my approach took a freer and a more abstract turn, as I began experimenting with acrylic paints and mixed media. These techniques are now my passion. Residing in Mont-Tremblant since 2013 has provided me with an incredible source of inspiration.  The primal beauty of this boreal ecosystem, its panoramic views dotted with Precambrian rocks, plus the multiple vistas provided by the changing of the seasons compel me to transpose their spirit on canvas.

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

I am basically an autodidact, having taken a number of courses at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, the Visual Arts Centre and the Cummings Centre in Montreal as well as workshops and private lessons with artists in Montreal and Mont-Tremblant. I have participated in 7 individual exhibitions and 22 group shows in Montréal, Westmount, Lac-Supérieur, Saint-Faustin-Lac-Carré, Val David and Mont-Tremblant in Quebec. My work is featured in private collections in Calgary, Alberta, in New Liskeard, North Bay, Toronto and London, Ontario as well as in Laval, Montreal and Mont-Tremblant, Quebec.
